The Puerto Rican Studies Association is pleased to announce its biennial Book Award Competition, the winner of which will be publicly announced at our 2016 PRSA Conference to be held on the campus of the University of Maryland from the 27rd through the 30th of October, 2016. Books published between April 1, 2014 and April 1, 2016 are eligible for consideration.
Named in honor of Frank Bonilla, one of the most signally distinguished, centrally “foundational” figures in our field and intended to recognize, highlight and distinguish the most notable book produced in Puerto Rican Studies between our biennial meetings. This competition is open without regard to particular topic, theme, approach or discipline. Re-editions of a work previously published are, however, ineligible to compete; and anthologies of selections by multiple authors, though not excluded, will also not normally be priority candidates for this award. Nominations may be made by any PRSA member, by individual authors, their publishers, or their agents. The Selection Committee’s commitment is from among all entries received to choose that one which, in the uncommon caliber of its scholarship, originality, and overall excellence, best and most compellingly engages issues and concerns of Puerto Ricans and their communities and altogether represents a preeminent, exceptionally distinguished contribution to our field.
Those putting forth a book in nomination should make arrangements with the publisher to directly send each member of the Award Committee a copy of the book at the addresses indicated below. All nominations must be received no later than April 15, 2016.
