2018 Virginia Sanchez Korrol Dissertation Award (VSKDA)

The Puerto Rican Studies Association is once again pleased to open its biennial Dissertation Award Competition, the winner of which will be publicly announced at our Conference scheduled for October 26-28, 2018

Dissertations successfully defended from June 2, 2016 through June 1, 2018 are eligible for consideration.

This award will recognize and honor the most notable Ph.D. dissertation produced in Puerto Rican Studies between our biennial conference meetings.  This competition is open to any topic, theme, approach or discipline. Nominations for this award can be made by any PRSA member, individual author, thesis advisor or thesis committee member. Self-nominations are allowed.

The PRSA Dissertation Award Committee’s commitment is to select one from among all entries received and will be scored on its scholarly originality and overall excellence, best and most compellingly engages issues and concerns of Puerto Ricans and their communities.  The Committee will analyze which dissertation best represents an exceptionally distinguished contribution to the field of Puerto Rican Studies.

The Award includes a modest monetary reward and the honoree will be recognized at the Conference, in the PRSA website and Facebook page. The winner must be a PRSA member.

To present a dissertation for consideration, individuals nominating candidates should submit the following via e-mail to each member of the Dissertation Award Committee,

To present a dissertation for consideration, individuals nominating candidates should complete the online Dissertation Award Submission Form. In addition to submitting contact information, nominations and submissions are required to include the following materials, no later than June 10, 2018:

  • a one page abstract;
  • advisor’s statement of completion;
  • author’s current C.V. and;
  • Full copy of the final, deposited thesis being submitted for consideration.
